This recruitment is being conducted to fill a temporary assignment and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan, organize, mentor, and evaluate learning experiences for Early Childhood Education, Child Development and other college students for the development of children in a children's center learning lab environment. Provide for the intellectual, social, emotional, mental and physical development of participating children.

Oxnard College was founded in 1975 and is the newest of the three community colleges in the county. Set on 118 acres and located two miles from Pacific Ocean beaches, the college is easily accessible by the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) or the Pacific Coast Highway.

Representative Duties

Plan, organize and direct a daily curriculum including activities designed to promote physical, emotional, creative and cognitive development in infant/toddlers, and/or preschool children. E

Provide college students with individualized guidance in child development techniques and the practical aspects of working with individuals and groups of young children. E

Train college students and student workers; observe and evaluate activities; assist in developing effective adult child relationships. E

Work with small and large groups of children in a variety of developmentally and culturally appropriate activities such as creative arts, mathematics, perceptual motor skills, science, language and social studies, both indoors and outdoors according to planned routines. E

Assist children with life skills as necessary; observe and evaluate health needs of children and take appropriate action. E

Prepare the early learning environment; work with director/supervisor and college faculty to assign college students, student workers, and volunteers to teaching areas and responsibilities; maintain a variety of records. E

Provide supervision and be a working role model to student workers, observers, and college students. E

Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, orientations, and in-service training programs as assigned. E

Assure standards of safety, health and cleanliness of the center are maintained. E

Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E

Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E

Perform other duties as assigned.

E = Essential duties

Minimum Qualifications


Two years of experience in an instructional capacity in a child care development program, working at least three hours per day within the last four years.

AND

Candidates must have at least 6 units of care for infants and toddlers AND be eligible to attain their Master Teacher credential based on the standards set by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC):

OPTION 1
  • Completion of 24 semester units of course work in early childhood education or child development, including at least one three-semester unit (or four-quarter unit) course in each of the following areas: child/human growth and development; child, family, and community, or child and family relations; and programs/curriculum.
  • Complete 16 semester units in general education, including at least one course in each of the following areas: humanities and/or fine arts, social sciences, math and/or science, and English and/or language arts.
  • Complete six additional units in one area of specialization, which may include, but is not limited to: a) infant and toddler care; b) bilingual and bicultural development; c) children with exceptional needs; d) preschool programming; e) parent/teacher relations; f) child health; or g) specific areas of developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Completion of an additional two semester units of adult supervision course work.
  • Complete 350 days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child development program, working at least three hours per day within the last four years.


OPTION 2

A bachelor's degree or higher; 12 semester units in early childhood education or child development; and three semester units or four quarter units of supervised field experience in an early childhood education setting.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Child Development Permit - Master Teacher level (or higher) OR proof of submission of an application for a Child Development Permit - Master Teacher level

Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certificates by the time of appointment
